Afi is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Sub Saharan Opportunity Fund (SSO). Afi has over 20 years of experience in the Hedge Fund and Financial Services industries, most recently as Founder and Managing Partner of Kenwood Advisors Inc., a firm that specializes in hedge fund consulting and outsourced marketing focused primarily on Institutional Investors and Fund Managers in the Southwest United States.

Prior to founding Kenwood Advisors in April of 2013, Afi was a senior member of the BNP Paribas (formerly Bank of America) Prime Brokerage team, where from 2000 through 2012, she held various executive roles, including Head of Southwest Capital Introduction, Head of Prime Brokerage Sales, and Head of Prime Relationship Management. During this time, she personally established and cultivated relationships with over 200 investors and 100 hedge fund clients. Her previous experience includes four years as COO of an Atlanta, GA, based emerging technology hedge fund.

Afi graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Texas, Dallas with a BS in Economics and Finance. She is deeply involved in the Dallas philanthropy community, serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with Dallas CASA, an organization that addresses the rights of abused children. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Capital for Kids, the Host Committee for Great Investors Best Ideas (GIBI), and is a Founding Member of Texas Wall Street Women. She is Series 7, 24, and 63 licensed. Afi lives in Dallas and is an avid runner.

Tina Hernandez
Managing Partner


Tina is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Sub Saharan Opportunity Fund (SSO). Tina has over 20 years of experience in the hedge fund industry, with specific focus and expertise in the Credit/Capital Structure trading and risk management space. Prior to co-founding SSO, Tina was Director of Operations and Investor Relations at Cannae Capital Management, a Dallas-based high yield/distressed hedge fund. Preceding Cannae, Tina was a Convertible Arbitrage Trader and later COO of Tugar Capital Management, a Convertible Arbitrage hedge fund.

Prior to Tugar, Tina worked at Arbitex Asset Management, a $1.3 billion Convertible Arbitrage hedge fund, where she modeled convertible bonds and managed separately managed accounts in tandem with the flagship fund. Tina was also Senior Trader with Avalon Global Asset Management, a $120 million global hedge fund specialized in technology, consumer products, and healthcare in San Francisco, where she managed all trading and risk management responsibilities. Prior to 2000, Tina was a business analyst and trade specialist at Montgomery Asset Management, a $13 billion emerging markets mutual fund in San Francisco.

Tina graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Government. She is an active member of Texas Wall Street Women and the Texas Hedge Fund Association. She is also a former Advisory Council Member for the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN). Tina is Series 65 licensed and was Series 7 and 63 licensed, both expiring in good standing.

John Holt
Strategic Investment Advisor


John serves as the Strategic Investment Advisor for the Sub Saharan Opportunity Fund. Additionally, Mr. Holt is the Co-Founder and President of Le Pont “A Bridge to Africa”, a non-profit organization focused on social impact investing in Sub Saharan Africa. John is also the founder and Managing Partner of Vasa Capital, an opportunistic real estate firm based in Dallas, Texas.

Prior to founding Vasa Capital, Mr. Holt co-founded Woodside Capital Partners where he was responsible for growing the Investment Manager’s portfolio $250MM of real estate equity and debt investments during his 3-year tenure there. Before co-founding Woodside, Mr. Holt was the Director of Structured Finance for Calmwater Capital (f.k.a., Karlin Real Estate) where he established the firm’s Dallas, TX office for equity and debt acquisition and origination.

In addition to the private equity fund experience, Mr. Holt spent several years in as an investment sales broker and asset manager in the distressed real estate sector. Mr. Holt was a Vice President at C-III Realty Services, the real estate investment banking subsidiary of C-III Capital Partners where he sold and closed over $1 billion of commercial real estate throughout the U.S. Prior to joining C-III, Mr. Holt worked in the Global Corporate Services group at CBRE ,where he managed and sold bank owned real estate assets on behalf of the FDIC. Before joining CBRE, Mr. Holt co-founded a boutique real estate investment and development firm specializing in mixed-use assets in Houston, TX.

Mr. Holt earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University and an MBA from Rice University.
